The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is a high-performing laptop. While it looks like any other laptop, the internal components suggest otherwise. It’s really a powerhouse because it’s built on AMD Ryzen and Polaris hardware. As a result, the laptop can deliver serious processing power. If you need to run RAM-intensive programs simultaneously, this is what you need.
From the outside, the laptop looks like it sports a metal chassis. But the truth is, the body is made of plastic. It can be hard to distinguish until you touch the surface yourself. The metal finish does give it a premium look. We love the design especially how the lid is shaped. There’s a silver logo with pretty accent lines. Open the lid, you’ll see the 17.3-inch display. The large screen makes it a perfect business laptop. However, the bezels are still thick all around, so it doesn’t feel like a premium ultra-slim notebook. It weighs 7.1 pounds and measures 16.3 x 11 x 1.3 inches. As for ports, they’re pretty extensive. Aside from a USB type-c port and a USB 3.0 port, you’ll also get a mini displayport, an HDMI output, and a Ethernet jack. There are two additional USB 3.0 ports on the right, allowing you to hook up many peripherals at the same time.
The 17.3 inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS display is awesome. It looks sharp and bright. In terms of color reproduction, we wouldn’t say it’s the best, but pretty good, nonetheless. It covers 119 percent of the sRGB color space, which is way below the EON with 192 percent. But if you have used the Acer Aspire before, the quality is on par. The brightness levels are what puts it ahead of its competitors. According to light meter, it can emit up to 341 nits, way above the EON despite the latter having a more vibrant display.
Keyboard and trackpad
The keyboard takes some time to get used to. Just take a look at how the keys are spaced out. You may be more familiar with keys that barely have spaces. Well, it’s a large laptop, so the keyboard should follow suit size-wise. The keys are pretty large and give a pleasant typing experience. They feel like giving higher resistance, though, so you need to press them harder. Another good thing about the keys is they don’t make noise while typing. Apart from being quiet, they also have backlights with 3 different intensity levels. This would be useful when you work in dim environments. In the meantime, the trakcpad does a good job. The whole thing is made of plastic, but there’s no problem with accuracy.
The Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC is a beast when it comes to performance. It’s running an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor. It’s originally a desktop processor, so expect the performance to be equal to a desktop running the same processor. It actually contributes to the weight. Other essential specs included in this device are a Radeon RX 580 and 24 GB DDR4. As for storage, it has 256 GB SSD (M.2 80 mm SATA) + 1 TB HDD (2.5″). With all these specs, none can deny that it would be blisteringly fast. The laptop can handle the most demanding tasks and games.
