The BLU Vivo 8 is the company’s latest attempt to appeal buyers who need a fully-featured budget Smartphone. Although you probably still can’t get over the personal data problems of the older series, the new one will surely bring major improvements. It has been unlocked, meaning that it can be used for different carriers.
The Vivo 8 is iPhone-esque in terms of design. Not that it’s a bad thing because many other phones are inspired by the iPhone series. However, it is hard to ignore the resemblance. The front, for instance, features white bezels. The position of the fingerprint sensor is also similar to that of an iPhone. Fortunately, it’s accurate and fast. It unlocks as soon as you put your finger on it. Another similarity is the home button that’s recessed below the display. The back looks premium thanks to the metal construction. It is also slightly curved on both sides, making it grippy and feel nice in the hand. The right side is where the power button and volume rocker are located. The handset also provides a microUSB port. It has yet to offer a USB Type C, but will probably be added to the next series as it’s quickly becoming popular.
On the front is a 5.5-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The resolution is not the highest, but it is just 5.5 inches, so you won’t see any pixelation. It gets very bright as well, not to mention that the quality itself is fantastic. The display is sharp, colors are nice, and the biggest advantage is they don’t appear oversaturated. This has become quite an issue among mid-range phones. If the tone seems off, just go to Settings to make some adjustments. By default, the tone setting is neutral. This can later be switched to warm or cool.
The internal specs match its mid-range title. It comes with a Mediatek Helio P10 6755 SoC and 4GB of RAM. The processor puts out a lot of power to run apps smoothly. There is no problem while maneuvering through apps or multitasking. We should be grateful because a phone with these specs could easily be sold for $600 if it came from a well-known brand. According to performance tests, the handset is comparable to the Nexus 6P. The blazing performance shows when we use it to play games. With a 4,010mAh battery, the BLU Vivo 8 manages to last 24 hours in a single charge. Of course, it is not supposed to be used continuously. If you do so, the screen-on time will be much shorter.
The BLU Vivo 8 has a 13MP rear camera and a 16MP selfie camera. For a mid-range handset, it works just fine. The camera takes photos fast, so it goes from one shot to another almost instantly. The features are quite comprehensive as well. There are slow-mo, gif capture, barcode scanning, etc. In bright environments, the sensor gets the job done. But take it indoors, it will struggle a bit. Low-light photos don’t look as impressive as the ones taken during the day.
