Cubot returns with another affordable handset, the Cubot H3. The main highlight is the 6000mAh battery. Not only does it pack a large battery, but the processor is also power-efficient. This combination results in a longer battery life. Smartphones with large batteries are not rare. In fact, they have created their own category. The average screen-on time is expected to be around 13 hours. This means you can use the handset for like 2 days as long as the display is not on continuously.
Don’t expect premium build quality from a budget phone. The Cubot H3 has a nice design, that’s about it. It is on the thick side with a the back feeling plasticky. We find it surprising because many Chinese manufacturers don’t hesitate to use metal to craft their budget phones. With that being said, it still feels solid for the price point. It includes a fingerprint as well. In terms of responsiveness, it’s not as agile as more expensive phones, but it still works, nonetheless. It takes more than a second to unlock the phone, unlike the average flagship that gets unlocked in a blink of an eye.
The Cubot H3 has a 5-inch screen with a 720p resolution. At first, you might be skeptical, but there’s nothing wrong with the display. Of course, there are a bunch of phones with better screens out there, but this is an affordable handset, so to speak. The display produces vivid colors and good contrast. Meanwhile, the viewing angles are acceptable, too. It’s multitouch which can recognize 5 touches at the same time. For this reason, you won’t have a problem playing games that use combos or multiple key stores.
This is another Smartphone with dual rear cameras. The first sensor is 13MP, while the second one is 0.3MP. The secondary sensor in this kind of setup is commonly used to add depth and create bokeh effect, which is the case with the Cubot H3. It’s capable of creating shots with this effect. The results are good, you can compare them to Chinese phones in the same price range.
It’s powered by the Mediatek MTK6737 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. It’s pretty fast considering this is a budget CPU. Daily tasks can be handled without a problem. However, it’s not reliable for multitasking which involves heavy apps. You’ll notice lags and other performance issues. It uses a ARM Mali-T720, which is also a mid-range option. Interestingly, it can play HD games, but not always smoothly. There are times when it struggles with frame-rates.
The device comes with 32GB of built-in storage. It’s more than enough to save many games from the Play Store. It also supports external memory of up to 128GB via a microSD card. When it comes to benchmark scores, they’re similar to other phones that use the same CPU. Check the performance by trying to navigate from one app to another and see how quick they open. As said before, it’s not the speediest processor, so don’t be surprised if it takes a few seconds to load an app.
