For those looking for a substitute for the iPad Pro, the Huawei MateBook E is actually the closest thing. It shows improvements over the last year’s model, such as a higher resolution as well as an optional i5 processor. With such a slim design, the tablet easily competes with the iPad Pro and leaves the Surface Pro 4 behind. Although it’s pretty large, it has a typical premium feel of a high-end tablet. Besides, it’s also equipped with a keyboard case just in case you want to use it for professional purposes.
There are some parts that should’ve been revised on the new device, such as the availability of ports. Unfortunately, this aspect remains unchanged from last year. It still has 1 USB-C port like before. No matter how powerful the internal components are, this having a full-size USB will make a big difference given that other competitors include this to increase their competitive edge. The port is the one used for charging. In terms of sleekness, it’s perfect. The tablet is really slim for the screen size. The build quality is impressive with metal all over the surface. A fingerprint scanner is also included and we love the fact that it’s highly responsive. The Huawei MateBook E comes with a detachable keyboard. It is a step-up from the predecessor and made of a high-quality material.
On the front is a 12-inch 1440p IPS LCD with 3:2 aspect ratio. Honestly, the display looks sharp, but the one of the older model was just as good. There is no significant improvement despite the stunning quality. Colors look vibrant, something you’d expect from a high-end tablet. The brightness is also sufficient, meaning that you won’t struggle when using it in bright environments. The aspect ratio is another reason to love this device. Many series follow the 16:9 trend, so it is quite refreshing to see it going this route. It is suitable for various modes, including portrait and landscape. You can browse through the internet comfortably because it is designed for this activity. Watching movies, on the other hand, can be bothering at first because you’d notice black bars. We’re sure you’ll get over it, though.
Apart from a good typing experience, the portfolio keyboard that comes with the Huawei MateBook E also features a kickstand. It is not a new innovation because the Microsoft Surface was unveiled with the same feature. The keyboard is comprehensive, so there’s no need to buy another one. It’s specifically designed for the E version. You can’t connect it to the original MateBook because the connector is different.
The tablet gets its power from an Intel Core i5 processor. It is quite a leap over the previous model in terms of performance. By the way, it doesn’t need fan cooling. Besides, it is also known for being so quiet. There are vents on top of the tablet. They are added to help expel heat that’s generated during operation. It may not deliver show-stopping performance like the Surface Pro, but it helps a lot in multitasking and loading heavy apps. There’s 8GB of RAM inside, which should be plenty for surfing with multiple tabs, gaming, and doing other tasks simultaneously. Battery life is pretty good, too. It manages to last up to 5 hours for watching. Of course, it can be extended by using it intermittently.
