Bezel-less Smartphones are quickly becoming a new trend. Some manufacturers have introduced their own models. Now if you are a Huawei loyal fan, you gotta love the new offering called the Huawei Nova 2i. This sort of design is more common in high-end devices. Thankfully, fans can enjoy it at a much lower price. As a mid-range Smartphone, the Nova 2i not only impresses with the immersive display. There are many other features to check out, but first, let’s take a look at the design.
It takes a lot of styling cues from the Huawei P10. Well, this appears simpler, which is a good thing if you’re into sleek designs. It adopts a unibody design and the whole part is metal. Metal contributes directly to the sturdiness of the construction. Even with a screen measuring 5.9 inches, it still manages to look slim. There is nothing bulky about this phone despite the large display. It also features matte finish which adds to its visual appeal. If we compared it to the P10, it is clear that both devices share many similarities. For example, they have the same exact dimensions. Besides, they are also equally lightweight. The biggest difference is the Nova 2i comes with a bigger display, an upgrade from a 5.5-inch on the P10.
Display is the main selling point of the Huawei Nova 2i. With its 5.9-inch FHD+ Fullview 2.5d IPS Panel, it easily rivals more expensive handsets. The screen ratio is 18:9, a highly popular concept adopted by high-end Smartphones. For those who are looking for an ideal phone for viewing multimedia content, this is the answer. The colors are vivid, while the viewing angles are wide. If there’s something we have to critique, it is probably the speakers because this type of display deserves the best audio quality. Well, it is a mid-range phone, after all. Just be happy that the main aspects like display really deliver. It is great for indoor use, but outdoors, the display seems to struggle a bit.
Camera is another aspect where the Huawei Nova 2i shines. Mind you, this is the first from Huawei to feature two dual-camera setups. Many phones have dual cameras on the back, but one the front. The 2i tries to appeal buyers with 2 rear and front cameras. The rear setup consists of 16 MP + 2 MP f/2.2 sensors, while the front-facing one is comprised of 13 MP + 2 MP f/2.0 sensors. There are many interesting features that come with the main camera, such as dual tone LED flash, PDAF, OIS, etc. (Also read: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Launched with a Dazzling Bezel-less Design)
So, what’s the purpose of the secondary camera? Like other phones with this configuration, the second camera aims to add depth to the photos. Auto focus is responsive. There’s no noticeable shutter lag, either. As long as the environment is bright, the phone can capture quality shots with lots of detail. In low-light conditions, the camera is still reliable. As for Modes, almost all introduced to the P and Mate series are added to this as well. There is even a new filter called ‘Effect Mode’ which you can use to create cute pictures.
