The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is the new and refreshed version of the original Surface. For those who haven’t bought the older one, consider buying this because it offers newer specs compared. If it wasn’t for the price tag, it could be easily be a perfect laptop for everyone. There are a few improvements that the new Surface brings. In addition to a screen upgrade from 13.5 to 15 inches, it also benefits from Intel’s 8th generation Core processors. The graphic cards are also more powerful on the Book 2. On top of that, all these additions don’t significantly affect the weight since it’s still kept under 2 kg.
There are tweaks here and there, but overall, the new version still retains the major elements of the previous model. For example, it still covered in aluminum. Perhaps the most recognizable difference is the weight. The new Surface Book feels more lightweight and slim. To take advantage of the powerful graphics, don’t forget to attach the keyboard case because the hardware is located right inside it. Besides, some connectivity options are also available only in the laptop model. The fact that the new Surface managed to shed off some weight while delivering better performance is very impressive.
The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is offered in several screen sizes. The 13.5-inch model is stuck with its Pixelsense display resolution, not a big deal considering it was already terrific to begin with. The 3:2 aspect ratio is also maintained. Now if you need a larger screen to work, we’d recommend the 15-inch model. Surprisingly, the PPI nearly matches the little brother because the display packs a higher resolution, from 3,000 x 2,000 to 3,240 x 2,160. Color reproduction is undoubtedly spectacular. Those who have used the first generation will get it.
Keyboard and trackpad
Despite all the improvements, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 still carries over the great aspects of the predecessor. And that includes a pleasant typing experience. The keyboard is excellent with a generous key travel. It comes with backlight to help you work in low-light environments. Meanwhile, the glass-laminated trackpad is highly responsive. It deserves all the attention because it easily takes the crown as the most interesting touchpad a Notebook has ever had. The ‘interesting’ part is not just the smooth surface, but also its interaction with the cursor. It almost instantly responds as you glide your fingers across the surface.
Whether you pick the 13.5-inch or the 15-inch one, just remember that both offer incredible performance. The smaller one comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB OF RAM, and 256GB of storage. It is not the only package available. If you’re willing to pay more, it could be upgraded to higher specs. The same goes for the 15-inch model. Just in case you aren’t satisfied with the current specs, consider upgrading. For this version, Microsoft offers a Core i7 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD. The overall performance is great, by far the most reliable Surface product. It’s outstanding for day-to-day computing, and has enough power to handle intense games.
