A powerful Smartphone is not necessarily designed for gaming. Some high-end flagships pack powerful specifications, but they are also loaded with features aimed at business professionals, students, and other types of users. The Razer Phone is different. It is straight for gamers. So if you buy a Smartphone mainly for this activity, then don’t miss this one. Razer is not a newcomer in the gaming industry. It is known for its range of gaming laptops. Now imagine all the incredible specs are put together into a much smaller device aka a phone. It’s definitely interesting to check out.

Design

There is nothing special about the design. In its defense, it is made for gaming. For those expecting a pretty or futuristic design, the Razer Phone is not here to meet that expectation. Despite the common design, the build quality is surprisingly good. It has a matte finish, so smudges won’t be too visible. It is aluminum based, which means durability is great. On the back, there is a 3-headed snake logo. There’s nothing else besides text at the bottom and a dual camera setup on top right corner. A fingerprint sensor is also available, built into the power button.

Display

Larger displays are comfortable for gaming. Since the Razer Phone is made primarily for this purpose, you will be satisfied with the 5.7-inch LCD QHD (1440 x 2560) IGZO screen. It is large, responsive, and durable due to the Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Why is it an LCD instead of an AMOLED? We all know AMOLED displays are known for their stunning colors. While color reproduction is an important requirement for gaming, an LCD display does better in terms of refresh rates. In other words, the company has made the right decision by incorporating this type of display. It results in smooth movement even for day-to-day tasks like scrolling through web pages. Lower the resolution, you’ll get a longer battery life.

Camera

It’s surprising to see a gaming phone takes photography seriously. The Razer Phone tries to cater to camera enthusiasts by offering dual cameras, 12 MP each. One is a telephoto lens, while the other one is wide-angle. The results are simply amazing for a phone not marketed for its camera performance

Performance

On the paper, the Razer Phone should be very reliable given that it’s powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor and 8GB of RAM. This amount of RAM is actually very ample. A Smartphone is not a laptop since both are used for different purposes. Well, it is better than nothing. Although it looks excessive, it will be useful when we load heavy apps at the same time. Browsers, streaming apps, photo editors, are notorious for being resource hogs. You will need a big RAM to handle all of them.

There isn’t lag or any another problem that usually arises from a limited amount of RAM. The internal storage is 64GB and expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card. Gaming is fun and long thanks to the 4,000mAh. It would be a shame if a powerful handset like this has a small battery because it affects screen-on time. Additionally, it has a fast charge feature called Quick Charge 4+ from Qualcomm. To reach 85% from empty, you only need to charge the device for an hour.

  • 8GB of RAM, 64GB of storage
  • MicroSD card support up to 2TB
  • Dual 12 MP rear cameras, 8 MP front-facing camera
