The Sony Alpha A6500 is part of the A6000 series lineup. It offers many great features, among others, a tilting touch screen and 5-axis image stabilisation. Besides, it also provides more grip compared to its predecessor. For shooting, it relies on a 24 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. All series in the lineup are reliable, but since they come at different price points, buyers have many to choose from.
As a mirrorless camera, there is no denying that the A6500 is compact. Even so, the build quality is great. It is made of magnesium alloy to ensure maximum durability. The camera may increase in size, but it’s still comfortable to hold. The only problem you’d probably have is when it is mounted to a large optic. It will feel a bit unbalanced. However, this can be solved by choosing a Zeiss 16-70mm f/4.0 lens which is perfectly designed for the camera. A chunky grip can be spotted on the front. It gives extra comfort while holding the camera. Around the same area there is shutter release. Meanwhile, the mode dial is located on top. There is another one that offers a number of functions.
We also love the placement of the dials because they’re centered on the right side, so maneuvering through menus becomes so easy. The quality of the screen is superb. The same can be said about the viewfinder. There is no noticeable lag when the camera is trying to focus on different objects. The screen tilts and has touch functionality. A simple tap will make the AF try to refocus. Although touch sensitive, the screen can’t do everything. What you can’t do on the display is swiping through images and setting menu options. Hope the successor will have a more established touchscreen. (Also read: Fujifilm X-T2 One Of The Fast Action Photography)
With a 24 megapixel sensor and 11fps continuous shooting, the Sony Alpha A6500 delivers excellent shots. The image stabilization also does wonders for the continuous shooting performance. Another feature worth-mentioning is high-speed autofocus. With this, you won’t miss any important moment. The screen is touch-sensitive and it can do many adjustments. For example, you can use it to set the focus point. It is also useful for zooming into photos when you use it in playback mode.
When it comes to video recording, the camera is capable of taking 4k video footage. It can also do it in fullHD resolution at 120fps. Users are spoiled with a wide range of shooting modes, such as custom modes, scene modes, and others. Connectivity support is good as it already includes NFC and Wi-Fi. If you’re interested in getting apps for free, please register the camera with them. This way, you’ll be eligible to access some useful apps at no cost. Bluetooth is also added to this device, so data transfer isn’t a problem.
24-megapixel sensors are easy to find in APS-C cameras nowadays. In fact, the A6500 is not the only one from the A6000 series that utilizes this type of sensor. The A6300 also has the same sensor with native ISO 100-25,600. Shooting capabilities are indeed impressive. Regular shooting results in high quality shots, while Dynamic Range ensures you can capture the most detail out of an object. Video shooting is just as good as the Sony Alpha A6500 boasts 4k UHD video at 30/25/24p.
