We are headed toward an era of bezel-less Smartphones. It already shows from the past few releases, more Smartphones are adopting near bezel-less designs. It is not that surprising because the demand is high. Manufacturers know that consumers like infinity displays for offering an immersive experience. The problem is many phones with this feature still have high price tags. Only some offer the spec while keeping prices low, one of which is the UMIDIGI S2.
At a glance, there is nothing cheap about the UMIDIGI S2 although the price begs to differ. It has a pretty design with aluminum alloy covers its unibody design. It also features eye-catching curves and a 90% body to screen ratio. Premium features are included, like a fingerprint scanner. It is surprisingly responsive, able to unlock the phone in a split second. There is no 3.5mm headset jack here, but you will get a USB Type C port in exchange.
The display is large, not only due to the fact that it has no bezels, but also because it’s essentially a large screen. It measures 5.99 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The Pro version packs a higher resolution, which means it looks more detailed despite having the same screen size. Another interesting thing about the display is 2.5d curved glass as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection.
UMIDIGI never fails to impress with its cameras. The new series comes with a dual camera setup on the back and one sensor on the front. The rear setup consists of 13.0 MP + 5.0 MP, while the selfie camera uses a 5.0 MP sensor. If you need better selfies, switch to the Pro model because it has a 16 MP front camera. The quality is great all around. It can create stabilized shots with vivid colors. The same goes for video shooting, it has proven itself to be reliable. Though the phone can deliver good performance outdoors, it kind of struggles indoors or in places where there isn’t much light around. For the price point, it comes as no surprise because the display is the real, but we still hope the upcoming generation will address this if any.
The UMIDIGI S2 comes with a Helio P20 processor operating at a maximum frequency of 2.3 GHz. The S2 Pro deliver more power with its 2.6 GHz Octa Core Helio P25 processor. They also offer different amounts of RAM. The original version has 4GB, while the Pro is slightly bigger, at 6GB. Either version is reliable for multitasking, but the Pro is aimed at buyers who are performance-conscious. While the core specs are different, they both are equipped with 64GB of internal storage. If it wasn’t enough, there is an option to expand the storage with a microSD card. It can support up to 256 GB. There is a 5100 mAh stored inside. This is a large capacity, which allows you to use the phone for 2 days straight without charging. The on-screen time averages 10 hours under intensive use, like gaming.
